Full-time four-wheel drive is optional on the Wagoneer L. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Sequoia.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Wagoneer L Grand helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Sequoia doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Wagoneer L and the Sequoia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available lane departure warning systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

There are almost 2 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Toyota dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer L’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep above average in initial quality. With 3 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated below average.

The Grand Wagoneer L’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 73 more horsepower (510 vs. 437) than the Sequoia’s 3.4 turbo V6 hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the Grand Wagoneer L is faster than the Toyota Sequoia:

Both the Wagoneer L and Sequoia have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. The Wagoneer L has a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The Wagoneer L has 8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Sequoia (30.5 vs. 22.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Wagoneer L has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Sequoia doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better traction, the Wagoneer L has larger standard tires than the Sequoia (275/65R18 vs. 265/70R18).

The Wagoneer L’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 65 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Sequoia’s standard 70 series tires. The Wagoneer L’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Sequoia Capstone’s 50 series tires.

The Wagoneer L has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Sequoia doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Wagoneer L has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Wagoneer L flat and controlled during cornering. The Sequoia’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Wagoneer L’s wheelbase is 8 inches longer than on the Sequoia (130 inches vs. 122 inches).

For greater off-road capability the Wagoneer L Air Suspension has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Sequoia TRD Pro (10 vs. 9.1 inches), allowing the Wagoneer L to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Wagoneer L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Sequoia doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Wagoneer L has 2.1 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front hip room, 1.1 inches more front shoulder room, 1.6 inches more rear headroom, 3.5 inches more rear legroom, 2.2 inches more rear hip room, 3.4 inches more rear shoulder room, 3.5 inches more third row headroom, 2.9 inches more third row legroom, .7 inches more third row hip room and 1.8 inches more third row shoulder room than the Sequoia.

The Wagoneer L’s cargo area provides more volume than the Sequoia.

Pressing a button automatically lowers the Wagoneer L’s optional second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Sequoia doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

Maximum trailer towing in the Toyota Sequoia is limited to 9520 pounds. The Wagoneer L offers up to a 10,000 lbs. towing capacity.

The Wagoneer L 4WD with optional equipment can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Wagoneer L can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Sequoia can’t be towed flat on the ground.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Sequoia Limited/TRD Pro/Platinum/Capstone, the Wagoneer L Grand offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, foot pedal distance, outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Wagoneer L’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Sequoia’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Wagoneer L offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Sequoia doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Wagoneer L has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Sequoia.

The Wagoneer L Grand has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Sequoia.

The Wagoneer L’s optional ParkSense Automated Parking can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling the transmission and speed with the brake pedal. With its available fully controlled system, the driver just activates it and it parks autonomously, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Sequoia doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Jeep Wagoneer outsold the Toyota Sequoia by over 9 to one during 2022.
